In 1985, under the editorship of Margaret Drabble, the text was thoroughly and sensitively revised to bring it up to date. The sixth edition, published in 2000, was extensively revised, expanded, and updated. Almost 600 new entries covered new writers, genres, and issues, and existing entries were reworked to incorporate the latest scholarship. In addition to the extensive coverage of writers, works, literary theory, allusions, and characters, there are sixteen featured entries on key topics including black British literature, fantasy fiction, and modernism. The Companion remains an unrivaled work that places English literature in its widest context: no other book offers such extensive exploration of the classical roots of English literature, and the European and non-European works and writers that have influenced its development. The sixth edition has now been revised to ensure that it remains absolutely up to date: the invaluable appendices - the chronology, and lists of winners of major literary awards - have been updated, as have many of the entries. Informed by the latest scholarly thinking, and comprehensively cross-referenced to guide the reader to topics of related interest, the Companion retains its position as the best guide to English literature available.

Note: This information is quoted from Bowker's Books in Print.

Access it in WSC Reference!
R 820.3 H262 2006
Click here for WSC holdings information.

New Style Guides

This past summer both APA and MLA released new editions of their style handbooks. more than 150 fashion designers are featured from around the world.

This book includes designers with a wide array of visions, from classical haute couture to those who experiment with developing fields such as anthropology, new textiles, high technology, architecture, art, or recycling. From Ricardo Tiscci, Nicholas Ghesquiere to Sybilla, to artists who are primarily concerned with pure fashion such as Lucy Orta, or to those investigators who concern themselves with innovation in the fields of textile research and technology, such as Issey Miyake or Hussein Chalayan.

The Atlas of Fashion Designers is a very relevant and useful reference in a hybrid society, which is composed of ever increasing heterogeneous elements. By offering a synthetic, fluid and diverse approach to the subject, the "Atlas" draws a map of the complex world of fashion at present time, and looks forward to what it may be tomorrow.

Note: This information was taken from Books in Print.

Access it in the Reference Room: R 746.92 Ec31
Click here for WSC holdings information.

CQ Weekly

Taking you deep inside the policy-making process, CQ Weekly provides non-partisan news and analysis on how legislation is shaped, who is shaping it and how it could affect your interests.

Every issue of CQ Weekly features:

Vantage Point. Quick-read analyses of emerging trends in government, commerce and politics.

In Focus. In-depth coverage of public policy developments across the governmental spectrum, from Congress to the White House to the Supreme Court

Cover Story. A weekly cover story on major issues unfolding on Capitol Hill, K Street, or at the White House, with a special focus on their impact on the legislative process.

Columns. A fresh perspective on national issues with an insider's insight on public-policy implications.

Weekly Report. The week's legislative news, including "Box Scores" and detailed information on bills, amendments and votes.

For the Record. A comprehensive review of all bills up for vote in the Senate and the House during the previous week.

Note: This information was taken from the Congressional Quarterly website.

Conn Library has issues from 1998-present. You will find the most current issue on the display shelves of the Periodicals Room.
